Internationally acclaimed soprano Shirley Close was born into a pastor’s home in Oklahoma. Both her mother and father were preachers, and her mother was well-known for her beautiful singing. At the age of two, Shirley made her singing debut in her parent’s rural church in Hopeton, Oklahoma; seated on the piano she sang “Open up your Heart and Let the Sunshine In.” Singing has always been a part of her life.
