Internationally acclaimed soprano Shirley Close was born into a pastor’s home in Oklahoma. Both her mother and father were preachers, and her mother was well-known for her beautiful singing. At the age of two, Shirley made her singing debut in her parent’s rural church in Hopeton, Oklahoma; seated on the piano she sang “Open up your Heart and Let the Sunshine In.” Singing has always been a part of her life. Continuing her musical studies, Shirley received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Olivet Nazarene University and a Master of Arts degree in Voice from the University of Southern California. Shirley’s love of hymns and gospel songs is deeply expressed on this CD. These are songs that were etched on her heart at an early age and still hold her strong in her faith today.
